A Venue With A Difference.

With shimmering tropical fish, eerie predators and stunning live coral reef galleries as a backdrop, the award-winning Reef HQ is a unique and versatile special events venue. The aquarium provides a venue hire service which allows you to select your preferred caterer and other entertainment options. Your hire fee also includes use of our theatre for AV presentations and trained guides to personally introduce your guests to the many exhibits and creatures that inhabit Reef HQ.

Everything from casual cocktails  to formal dinners are catered for with a range of spaces and locations within the aquarium. We believe our venue and service will exceed your expectations and assure you of a successful event.

Sunset Cocktails

Reef HQ readily transforms into an exciting and unique venue for a cocktail event for up to 250 guests. The setting is perfect for pre dinner drinks, a product launch or informal wedding reception. Whether it is education, entertainment, fun or relaxation, nowhere else in Townsville offers a view like Reef HQ.

Dinner Event

Reef HQ is perfect for exclusive, stylish dinners and can seat up to 130 guests comfortably. Pre-dinner drinks served under the watchful eyes of our predators and reef creatures, followed by a meal set against the backdrop of the living reef exhibit, Reef HQ really does exceed expectations of a venue with a difference.

Reef Breakfast

What a way to start the day! Breakfast with a view of beautiful reef fish and coral exhibits. Your morning function may run up to 9am and provides a fresh alternative for breakfast presentations and seminars.

The Setting

• Reef HQ is open to the public every day until 5pm. To ensure an easy set up and security for your guests we recommend functions do not commence earlier than 5.30pm.

• Your guests are welcomed to the main areas of Reef HQ and invited to explore the entire aquarium.

• Coral Reef Exhibit lit for the viewing of fish and corals.

• Background music is included for no fee, or you are welcome to organise alternative entertainment although the delicate nature of our live exhibits must be taken into consideration and the Function Coordinator advised of music selection.

• Microphones, spotlights and audio visual equipment available for use in the Reef HQ theatre, with a staff member to coordinate if required (no extra cost).

Reef HQ Diver

For that extra special touch Reef HQ can organise one of our divers to make a presentation from within our Coral Reef Exhibit with a guide on the floor to provide interpretive information. Reef HQ’s underwater audio system allows the diver to talk to your guests about the Reef, the animals or even your organisation… present your message in a novel and memorable way.
