Night Zone

Have you ever wondered what happens on the night shift? What do reef creatures do when the lights go out? Find out when you meet the nocturnal animals and glow-in-the-dark creatures that live in the shadows of the ocean depths. Experience the reef at night and find out. Explore the dark side of the reef and come face to face with the mysterious creatures that live in the dark, deep sea.

Night Zone

Many daytime animals rest at night, seeking shelter in crevices, caves and overhangs in the reef, often occupying the same spaces that are used by their nocturnal counterparts during the day. While daytime animals sleep, other animals take advantage of the night to feed.

Some marine organisms emit light. This is known as bioluminescence. Bioluminescent animals range from microscopic bacteria to larger animals such as squid and fish.

Animals use bioluminescence for many different purposes: to avoid capture, to attract prey, a mate, or even to communicate. Be hypnotised by the luminescent creatures in the Night Zone.
