Reef HQ, formerly known as the Great Barrier Reef Aquarium, was opened on 24 June 1987 and is the world's largest living coral reef aquarium. Its innovative exhibits provide a real life encounter of the Great Barrier Reef. The main attraction is a two and a half million litre coral reef exhibit that replicates a natural reef ecosystem. As the Reef Education Centre for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Reef HQ is known as a centre of excellence in marine education. Reef HQ exists to inspire everyone to care for the Great Barrier Reef. It is operated on a cost-recovery basis and relies heavily on sponsorship and donations for its commercial viability.

  • Filming and photography are welcome in Reef HQ at the absolute discretion of Reef HQ and by prior arrangement. The attached guidelines and application are provided to ensure filming operations are not detrimental to the reputation or normal operations of Reef HQ.

Further information regarding media opportunities should be directed to Reef HQ’s Marketing Coordinator at info@reefHQ.com.au.
