Turtle Hospital Partners

The support provided by Reef HQ Aquarium Turtle Hospital Partners actively contributes to the Turtle Hospital achieving the following objectives and associated activities:

To increase the Reef HQ Aquarium's Turtle Hospital capacity and ability to:

  • Treat acute and chronic ailments to ensure marine turtle survival and provide for their safe return and reintegration into natural habitat
  • Lower human induced marine turtle mortality through raising awareness
  • Teach and inspire the community and visitors about marine turtles through educational experiences and tours


  • Ongoing operation and expansion of rehabilitation facilities
  • Facilitation of daily turtle hospital talks and tours for visitors to Reef HQ Aquarium and related community events
  • Support ongoing research partnerships that enable a better understanding of marine turtles, the aliments they present with and the most appropriate treatment to provide them

Research and Veterinary Support Partnership

James Cook University's School of Veterinary and Biomedical Science have come on board as a supporting partner of the Turtle Hospital. The recent opening of the University's state of the art Veterinary Clinic has provided an opportunity for sick and injured turtles to have all important x-rays that are essential in trying to diagnose some of the more tricky ailments that turtles present with.

This partnership will also allow for research collaborations to be established that aim to provide a better understanding of these amazing sea creatures.
